A RICH BACKGROUND
TO KEEPING WACO BEAUTIFUL

In 1979, Frances Sturgis, friend of First Lady Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson, who introduced the national beautification effort during Lyndon B. Johnson’s presidency, convinced Waco leaders to establish the Greater Waco Beautiful Association that would actively support ongoing beautification efforts in Waco.

In 1981, the GWBA was incorporated and became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  GWBA soon thereafter became a certified affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful. After 45 years we have held gold statuses with both affiliates, including winning several grants and awards to further our mission.

Beautification
We envision a future where all can thrive from beautiful surroundings. We create long-lasting beautification efforts to Waco, Texas.

Sustainability
While recycling and diversion is top of mind, we are actively navigating ways to make Waco a more sustainable place to live.
