THE GETTERMAN WELLNESS CENTER WALKING TRACK & GARDEN

In spring 2025, Keep Waco Beautiful established new planters filled with native and pollinator plants, securing a Monarch Way Station certificate! This space also includes a shaded structure, picnic table, and several benches around the existing track. The Getterman Wellness Center is a clinic to patients facing chronic illnesses. Our vision for this project was to encourage patients to utilize the outdoor track, benefit from beautiful surroundings, but also have accommodated seating options.

Thanks to Keep Texas Beautiful and HEB Our Texas Our Future Grant for funding this project!

OVER 45 Years of beautifying Waco

Tree Plantings

We are a proud certified Tree City USA, community, and this is all thanks to our incredible Parks and Recreations Team. We are grateful to partner with our city for more tree plantings in public parks.

We plant dozens of trees throughout the year alongside City of Waco Parks and Recreation, who is constantly maintaining and replacing trees that have suffered environmental disasters.

Keep Waco Beautiful has played a valuable role in making Waco a more vibrant place to live. We have worked on notable projects, such as: Miss Nellie’s Pretty Place, Indian Spring Park, Heritage Square, and many other school and senior living center gardens.

GARDENS

City of Waco Police Department Peace Garden
Opened: October 2022

Thanks to our kind donors, Tevita and Makenzie Asisi, we established a peaceful place for our first responders to take a break, debrief, and enjoy lunch outdoors in this refreshed garden area. We had several rounds of volunteers work diligently and included a local artist to install a mural for the area.

This space is home to several natives, drought tolerant, trees, and shade-loving plants.

Bledsoe-Miller Children’s Learning Garden
Opened: October 2023

Thanks to the Keep Texas Beautiful and H-E-B Green Bag Grant, we were able to create an outdoor STEM/STEAM learning garden for our children to see, smell, and taste through a walkthrough space of native, drought tolerant, and pollinator plants.

This space is built with intention to create environmental education for the STEAM Center For Excellence at Bledsoe-Miller Community Center.

The space also supports our local flora with pollinators and monarchs, bringing them to the area for necessary nutrition!

Garrison Street Garden: A Creating Green Neighborhoods Project
Ribbon Cut: May 2024

The National Women in Agriculture have had this community garden for several years, and thanks to a Keep Texas Beautiful and H-E-B grant, a Keep America Beautiful MLK grant, and sponsorship from Baylor University Solid Gold Neighbor, we have partnered with them to help elevate and expand their existing community garden. This space is a gathering point for East Wacoans to utilize the space for their own garden and Rapoport Academy’s educational outdoor classroom. This space is home to our Green School’s program, in partnership with Rapoport, National Women in Agriculture, and Waco Downtown Farmer’s Market. Learn more about the Green Schools Program!
